Our main building is a grand 1830s Mansard-style edifice we often refer to by our name, William Farmer, as though the building itself is one of us.

Wm. Farmer features seven guest rooms and suites on the floors above our restaurant and barroom. Each beautifully appointed room is named for a beloved Farmer family member. The rooms vary in size, layout, décor, amenities and price point to ensure a space and experience that perfectly suits your needs and style.

The Abigail

The warm, cozy Abigail Suite is named for owner and chef Kirby's paternal grandmother, Abigail Farmer. From Old Linn Creek, Missouri, Abigail was a super soft-spoken and unforgettably kind and caring lady who almost obsessively devoted herself to her kids and grandkids. As such, we've obsessively devoted ourselves to making this the coziest, most caring of suites, tucked away on the second floor of the Wm. Farmer building so you can truly retreat and relax.

The Anne Marie

Sweet, good-natured and kind, Anne Marie O’Conner raised her family in Baltimore and eschewed luxury in favor of generosity and caring for her children and grandchildren. Her deep sense of hospitality manifested in her focus on those around her, her attentiveness to the comfort and welfare of those in her care and, even in her older years, on those who cared for her.

Some of Kristan’s fondest memories, funny enough, were the days she would stay home sick from school and spend the day at Grandmas, cuddled on the couch, watching 'stories’….. days she often enjoyed so much she didn’t want to leave.

The incredible coziness of the Anne Marie suite is, in a way, Kristan’s tribute to that never-want-to-leave, stay-for-one-more memory. On that note, this suite is right above the bar, so you really are welcome to stay for another and quite easily make it upstairs for the night!

The Pennington

This two-bedroom suite, sandwiching a darling living room and cozy kitchen, is named for owner and chef Kirby’s maternal grandfather, Paul Pennington Hearn. He was a Georgia boy, who as a youngster, burned down one of his father’s cotton fields playing with matches. Paul turned it around quickly though, aspiring to become a doctor from the age of six... and he did! As a young doctor in WWII, he was stationed in the same base with Clarke Gable. With his dark hair and similar looks people often mistook him for Clark.

A corner room on the second floor, just above our dining room, it seemed like the perfect spot to name for a man who rose so inspirationally from the spanking of a lifetime to go onto achieve such wonderful things for himself, his family and his country. With that in mind, we invite you to the Pennington Suite to sit back and let life unfold. BTW feel free to help yourself to the bowl of gumdrops, Paul’s guilty little pleasure.

The Lee Wendell

Day after day, owner and chef Kirby’s father’s father, Lee Wendell Farmer, was dedicated to his career and providing for his family, first in banking and then in insurance. He was the first person in his small community to set-up drive-through banking. But his heart was happiest fishing the Little Niangua River and tending to his huge garden. He was the first person to inspire Kirby to pick up a fly-rod and fall in love with fly fishing and with food. Lee Wendell loved curing country hams and giving them to his best clients, but his favorite of all moments were undoubtedly spent around the Farmer family table with his five children and beloved wife Abigail.

So, in honor of this great man, perhaps hang your coat and your hat for a cozy stay in this third floor suite. It’s the perfect place to take a break, think on what (and who) you love most, and how to cultivate inspiration in your life and in theirs.

The James Louis

The James Louis is named for owner Kristan’s maternal grandfather. He was a tried-and-true Irishman, smoked a pipe, drove a killer green 1970s Volvo, wore a lot of plaid and always had an eye for detail and design. His love of his grandchildren and a good Scotch celebrated his devotion to faith, family, and the good life. James Louis should have lived long enough to enjoy, and for that matter critique, the proper drinking culture of the Barroom at Wm. Farmer and Sons.

He taught Kristan how to play trains one sunny afternoon, a memory she now describes as one of her fondest. That kind of memory you can access and find yourself transported right back. What magic! This room, with the coziest of nooks on our 3rd floor, proudly bears his name, and is dedicated to those lovely, indelible memories in life.

The Kemp

Tucked away on our third floor, The Kemp is just right for an escape and taking stock of things. And then, when you’re ready, you can walk right across the hall to our rooftop coffee deck for a little fresh air and socializing. “Kemp” is the maiden name of owner and chef Kirby’s mother’s mother. First name: Ada. The oldest of nine in an Iowa farming family, who planned to travel the world until she met Paul Pennington in San Francisco and got engaged the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. We just know this would have been the perfect spot for her to call her own with her pet poodle, Pogo, in tow.

The Margaret

Named for owner Kristan’s maternal grandmother, this escape on our third floor is a stronghold of memories and love, with a view of the river to boot.

Irish to her core, Margaret Donohue Murphy was a strong and steadfast scion of the teenager who left the West of Ireland to find family and create community in Baltimore, Maryland. She embodied the prim and proper second generation that did not forget how to have fun and celebrate their heritage. A dedicated career woman who valued her community volunteer involvement as passionately as her work.

A proud member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Margaret was named Hibernian of the Year and asked to serve as deputy marshal of Baltimore's St. Patrick's Day Parade. A beautiful tribute to a woman who could not have been more proud to lead the city she loved in celebration of her heritage. That positive spirit of connecting and keeping our roots strong inspired this room, named in her honor.
